Typically, February is all about romance. Thoughts of dinners, flowers, and jewelry take hold of our thoughts. Our mood becomes totally dependent on our expectations of someone else doing something nice for us. This February, depend on only yourself for your happiness and discover Yoga. This ancient practice has a modern appeal to the young and old. Design Detroit visited with the yogi’s at the Yoga Shelter in Royal Oak, where our breathe was taken away by the approach and spirit at this center.

Nicole Yoder, COO of Yoga Shelter, LLC, says yoga should be practiced everyday. Yoga Shelter offers classes throughout the day, making it easy to find a class that matches up with your schedule. The Shelter offers a variety of classes, each one offering long term physical, emotional, and mental benefits. Once you attend a few classes, you will find poses that are amongst your favorites, those that seem to release tension for you. Can’t make it to a class? Caren Paskel, Head of Teacher Development at Yoga Shelter, suggests that you spend 15 minutes on a mat at home, breathing and moving into some of your favorite poses.

When a person practices yoga, they can improve their sense of balance, community and state of mind. The Yoga Shelter has created an environment to fit whatever you are looking for… fitness, calmness, tension relief, spirituality. The idea at Yoga Shelter is not to tell you what you need, but rather for you to define what you need and make the practice work for you. Through their classes and teachings, Yoga Shelter helps you live the life you want to live.
