Spring is in the air, so why not wear a piece of spring at your next special occasion. Now if your next special occasion is a Tiger game, maybe leave the boutonniere in the fridge. But if your next best special occasion is your wedding or your prom, don’t forget the floral touch. And please, take a minute to look at more than just a carnation….not that there is anything wrong with a carnation, but an interesting, unique flower will make all the difference in the world.
Design Detroit reached out to Emerald City Designs in Farmington Hills, to discuss the little arrangement with a big sound. David McKnight, owner of Emerald City Designs, advises that “when it comes to a groom’s boutonniere have a little fun with it and let his personality shine through. You want it to be elegant but still have a masculine feel. Recently, there was a groom that loved the color orange but the color was not in the wedding. Without sacrificing the look of the event our designers created a unique and classic boutonniere that was all shades of orange.” We love it when the man has an opinion about something like a flower and it can, with experts like David, be worked into a color scheme.
Corsages come in all different shapes, sizes and colors. I like to recommend a wrist or a pin corsage for the grandmothers, readers, and aunts. As for the mothers I love to create a small hand tied bouquet about 2-3 inches wide for the mothers to walk down the aisle with and then simply put at her place setting at the reception. It’s great to work with floral that has a scent like a gardenia. This flower is very delicate and must be handled with care but has an amazing scent that will remind the client of their special day every time they smell it.”
We loves the wire rolled accents on the yellow flowers…it creates some added texture and interest.
And of course, for those young men who are headed to their prom, spend a little time finding about your dates dress and if a dress has straps. Find out the color of your dates dress, (we probably don’t need to even mention that) and find out if they have a favorite color or flower. This is very impressive if you can include a dates favorite flower.
Although the boutonniere and corsage is meant for the most special of occasions, maybe wearing an orange flower will be a game changer at the next Tigers game.
Enjoy your next special occasion and don’t forget the finishing touch.
